What is Zero-Click Search?
Zero-click search is when the user gets the complete answer directly in the search engine or AI assistant, without ever clicking a link — radically changing how organic traffic works.
Zero-click search describes the behavior where a user asks a question and gets the full answer right there — in a Google AI Overview, a ChatGPT response, a featured snippet — without needing to click any result. More than half of Google searches today end without a single click.
Why it breaks classic SEO logic
Traditional SEO measured success by ranking position and click-through rate (CTR). In a zero-click search, there's no click to measure: the "win" is being the source cited inside the answer, not the page visited afterward. Companies that only optimize for ranking position, without worrying about being the citable source inside the generated answer, lose visibility without any traditional metric flagging the loss.
Why it matters for your B2B business
In a B2B buying journey where the decision-maker asks an AI instead of searching, zero-click search is the rule, not the exception. Organic growth strategy needs to adapt: less focus on "showing up on page one," more focus on being the structured, citable, trustworthy source the AI chooses to mention — which is exactly the goal of an AEO/GEO architecture.
